Halloween 2012

Ty and Nya have been preparing for this night for a while now.  They settled on being a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle and a Pixie (this was a toss-up until the end with being a princess).  We craved the pumpkins the week before and both were very helpful after I made the comment “help me clean out the pumpkin guts” versus “clean the pumpkin”.  Both Ty and Nya wore their costumes to daycare and preschool with the other gremlins.

Grandpa and Grandma Soutter were in town for the spooking night.  Both kids went to each house and yelled out a “Trick or Treat” and then followed by a very important “Thank You!”.  I took them out for the first half and the interesting thing was that Ty was done after just a half-a-block.  Kate took over and Nya continued the candy hunt.  There was no stopping her.   One house after another with no break.

This will be the last year for the “Viking grave” setup.  I finally got around to leveling the mound that causes my lawn mower to sigh at its site.  Hopefully next year at this time, it will have a nice coat of grass.   New to this year was the use of a “sound board”.  I had a Bluetooth black speaker near the head of the grave hooked into my iTouch.   Most of the time it would pump freaky music in to the air.  However, when a group of kids walk by, I would try out one of two dozen sounds.  The creaking door and the child scream seemed to make them jump the most.

Turn out seemed very low compared to the last four years.  Not sure why.  The weather was perfect for trick and treating.  Maybe Bloomington is sacrificing too many kids to ensure a bountiful harvest.
