Ty has a perplexing and weird loathe of buttons. He will NOT wear any shirts with buttons, AT ALL! I dont know when it came on. Maybe I blame myself. Is it because I dressed him in mostly t-shirts and somehow it stuck that buttons were bad? Or is it that our Ipad has a cute little story about a boy whose coat has talking button friends. One falls off and a nice squirrel jumps on the boy's shoulder and gives the boy back his button and the two other button friends are happy again. Talking buttons would freak me out too if I were 3 and had an active imagination. But then why isn't he afraid of button-carrying squirrels hopping up on him? We've tried everything. He sees Daddy wearing button down shirts. We tell him superheros have buttons on their costumes. It works with other things but not buttons.Last weeks scenario: I wore a dress to work that had buttons on it (It's one of my favorites and very cute!). I walked in the door and Ty comes running to greet me with his arms out ready for his hug and he stops in his tracks about 10 feet away from me and his face drops.
"Why are you wearing that?"
"What, Ty? My new shoes?"
"No, that dress. It has buttons. Take it off"
And he turns away. In fact, he wouldn't even come close to me until I changed my clothes.
I finally got my hug, but I am just as perplexed as ever about the hold buttons has over my child.
